I wouldn’t say these programs are cons. Some voice talent who also coach others offer exceptional material. I just think people need time to consider all of the points of the offer and weigh them against their career goals and budget.

I’ve been sucked into a couple of things because I got caught up in the excitement from the sales pitch. I don’t regret doing them, but I realize in hindsight that I might have found a better use for my time and money.

I am particularly concerned about untrained v/os and broadcasters. In 90 mins the other night I counted 7 on TV. The list is on my web site if you care to look. Big names.

Many talented professional voice talent are indeed promoting various programs, any of which may be just the perfect thing you need to advance in your career. It does take time to research various offerings to determine the program that is right for you. If one is not a “selective sifter”, it’s easy to be a victim of a manipulative sales pitch and/or fall in the trap of being a perpetual student without ever becoming a working professional.

As one who is the research and education faze of getting started in voice over I have been trying to find my way through a sea of internet marketing from a wide array of what seem like talented professionals in the business. I am learning to be a very selective sifter, not that I haven’t come close to biting on a few offers that if I had the cash just sitting there I might have gone for. I’ve begun to wonder if there is more money to be made in marketing services to those who want to be successful in voice over than in the actual craft/business itself.
